Anderson's Mill
Anderson’s Mill was a large steam and water powered flour mill built 1861 in Smeaton, Victoria.
In the many times traveling between Bendigo and Ballarat I’ve noticed the sign to the Mill and always wanted to stop in and explore. Finally after a recent trip to Ballarat I was able to stop in and have a look around. What an amazing place to explore! I need to come back next autumn when the trees still have their leaves. This place is very peaceful especially with the flowing water in Birch Creek.
I love the bridge that allows access over the creek, from memory it was restored back in 2018, you can see it in the video and gallery below. The entire grounds of the mill are also amazing, there’s something about the architecture from the past that looks great when photographed!
Exploring the grounds
Below is a selection of the better images I captured during my quick stop at the mill. I had another shot in mind that I couldn’t do as someone else had turned up and parked close to the main structure ruining my plans for a panoramic of the bridge, creek and mill. I’ll get it next time!
The gallery below includes all the images presented in the video above. All captured on the Olympus OM-D EM-1 MKII using the 8-25 f/4 pro lens and all shots were hand held and edited in Lightroom with a lot of the images edited using a method from an awesome video by Mark McGee Photos.
Doing a little more research into the mil and came across a great video by Parks Victoria explaining some of the history and also a tour of the building.
